With effect from September 1, 2025, only ICAO-compliant photographs will be accepted for submission of passport applications.
📷 Guidelines for ICAO-Compliant Passport Photographs
As per the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, applicants must ensure that photographs submitted for passport services follow these rules:
- Close-up of head and shoulders so that the face occupies 80–85% of the photo.
- Photo must be in colour, size 630×810 pixels.
- Photographs must be unaltered by software.
- Background should be plain white.
- The photograph must:
- Show the applicant looking directly at the camera.
- Display natural skin tones.
- Have appropriate brightness and contrast.
- Show eyes open and clearly visible.
- Not have hair covering the eyes.
- Be taken with uniform lighting (no shadows, no reflections, no red-eye).
- Show the mouth closed.
- Be captured from a distance of 1.5 meters.
- Be clear and not blurred.
- Must show full face, front view, eyes open.
- Should cover full head from top of hair to bottom of chin.
- Head must be centered and not tilted.
- No distracting shadows; glasses should be removed to avoid reflections.
- Illumination should not cause red-eye or reduce eye visibility.
- Head coverings are not permitted (except for religious reasons), but facial features must be fully visible.
- Expression should appear natural.
