The Embassy, in partnership with the Red Lotus Asian Film Festival, successfully organised the Indian Film Festival 2026 on 20 & 22 March at the iconic Wien Mitte Cinema.
The festival showcased the richness and diversity of Indian cinema across languages and genres. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran highlighted the profound cultural impact of Indian films in connecting global audiences with India’s stories, traditions, and emotions.
As part of the Embassy’s ‘One District One Product’ initiative, the opening night also featured a special coffee tasting session, presenting unique ODOP coffee from India.
From the Kannada epic Kantara to the Hindi thriller Andhadhun and the inspiring Sui Dhaaga, the festival celebrated both regional and Hindi cinema, reflecting India’s vibrant storytelling heritage.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the diplomatic corps, friends of India, and the Indian diaspora in Austria.
