Amb of India to Ireland Calls on President Michael D. Higgins

Dublin, 4 November 2025 — H.E. Mr. Akhilesh Mishra, Ambassador of India to Ireland, accompanied by Mrs. Reeti Mishra, paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble President of Ireland, H.E. Dr. Michael D. Higgins, at Áras an Uachtaráin on 4 November 2025. The meeting was warm and cordial, reflecting the longstanding cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Ireland. X (formerly Twitter)+1

Ambassador Mishra conveyed his appreciation for President Higgins’ continued interest in India and for the Irish President’s earlier strong public statement condemning attacks on members of the Indian community in Ireland. He noted the President’s contributions to culture, language preservation and public intellectual life — themes that resonated with the Ambassador’s own scholarly engagement; Ambassador Mishra has authored a monograph drawing parallels between Vedic philosophy and President Higgins’ poetry. The two leaders exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including cultural and linguistic preservation, food security and traditional agricultural diversity. Ambassador Mishra highlighted India’s millet promotion efforts — linked to the International Year of Millets (2023) — as an example of converging priorities on sustainable food systems. President Higgins spoke about the importance of solidarity, inclusion and intellectual exchange, and conveyed his best wishes to Ambassador Mishra and the people of India. ANM English+1

The courtesy call, held days before the completion of President Higgins’ second term, underlined shared democratic values and a desire to deepen cultural and bilateral cooperation. The Embassy of India in Dublin and the Office of the President released photographic and social media posts documenting the meeting.
