Embassy of India in Stockholm and ISDP Host Dialogue on Human Rights and India’s Democratic Journey
The Embassy of India in Stockholm, in collaboration with the Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP), hosted a thought-provoking discussion titled “Human Rights, Indian Constitution, and the Emergence of India as a Resilient Power.” The event brought together an esteemed audience of policymakers, legal experts, diplomats, scholars, and members of the Indian diaspora, fostering meaningful dialogue on democratic governance and international cooperation.
The session commenced with welcome remarks by Dr. Niklas Swanström, Executive Director of ISDP, who emphasized India’s increasing strategic relevance within Nordic and broader European discourse.
The keynote address was delivered by Hon’ble Justice Shri Surya Kant, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, who offered deep insights into the foundational principles of the Indian Constitution, the strength of its democratic institutions, and the pivotal role of the judiciary in safeguarding human rights.
A special address was delivered by H.E. Rashid Farivar, Member of the Swedish Parliament, who highlighted the need to deepen bilateral ties and uphold shared democratic values.
Ambassador-designate Anurag Bhushan reiterated the common democratic ethos shared by India and Sweden and affirmed the Embassy’s commitment to strengthening people-to-people connections and institutional partnerships.
The discussion and interactive segment were skillfully moderated by Dr. Jagannath Panda, Head of the Stockholm Centre for South Asian and Indo-Pacific Affairs at ISDP.
The event underscored the shared vision of India and Sweden in promoting open, inclusive, and resilient societies, while paving the way for deeper collaboration in democratic governance, judicial cooperation, and strategic dialogue.
