The interaction session held in Reykjavík on 23 June 2025, jointly hosted by the Icelandic Federation of Trade and the Embassy of India in Iceland, received prominent media coverage in Iceland’s leading newspaper Morgunblaðið (MBL).
The session featured Mr. Sunil Barthwal, Commerce Secretary, Government of India, and Mr. L. Satya Srinivas, Special Secretary, Department of Commerce, during their visit to Iceland. The engagement provided a valuable platform to discuss trade and investment opportunities between India and Iceland, particularly in the context of the newly concluded India-EFTA Free Trade Agreement.
Addressing a gathering of Icelandic business leaders and entrepreneurs, Mr. Barthwal extended a warm invitation to Icelandic companies to explore and invest in the fast-growing Indian market. He emphasized the potential for cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, fisheries, pharmaceuticals, innovation, and green technologies.
Ambassador R. Ravindra, Chairman of the Iceland-India Business Council Þór Sigurjónsson, and other dignitaries also participated in the discussions, which were focused on deepening economic linkages and identifying sectors of mutual benefit.
The event was well-received, with the Icelandic media highlighting India’s growing global economic role and the strong foundation for enhanced bilateral cooperation laid by the India-EFTA trade agreement.
