Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman speaks during the High-Level Seminar On Strengthening Global Collaboration for Tackling Food Insecurity, on sidelines of G20FMCBG, in Bali, today.
In her remarks, FM highlighted that food, fuel, and fertilisers are Global Public Goods, and ensuring access to these for developing and emerging economies is critical. She also highlighted the urgency to strengthen food production and global food system.
The FM said that the world is going to celebrate 2023 as the International Year of Millets; and since India is a major millet-producing country in the world, India can ensure valuable contribution to #FoodSecurity in the world through Millet Production.
The Finance Minister underlined that India in taking lead globally in knowledge exchange and also helping in building resilient livelihoods for small-holder farmers and adaptation capacities to Climate Change.
FM also shared India’s experience, including robust gains in agriculture production, citizen-centric food security programmes and #innovative delivery mechanisms such as landmark plan of One Nation One Ration Card scheme.
FM Smt. Sitharaman concluded the session with suggesting 4I strategy to address the global food security challenge that includes Inclusion, Inter connectedness, Innovation and Investment.
