A moment centuries in the making.
For the first time ever, the sacred Piprahwa relics of Bhagwan Buddha are reunited with related artefacts from India, marking a historic spiritual and cultural milestone.
Introducing “The Light & the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One” — an exhibition that brings together history, faith, and archaeology.
Discovered in 1898, the Piprahwa relics are among the earliest archaeological remains directly linked to Bhagwan Buddha, and are central to understanding early Buddhism. Archaeological evidence links Piprahwa to ancient Kapilavastu, widely believed to be where the Buddha spent his early life before renunciation.
After more than a century abroad, the relics have returned home 🇮🇳 — reflecting sustained government efforts, global cooperation, and innovative public–private partnerships.
At the heart of the exhibition stands a reconstructed interpretive model inspired by the Sanchi Stupa, uniting repatriated gems with authentic relics from Indian collections.
Sharing glimpses, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the exhibition as a tribute to India’s timeless spiritual heritage.
