Dr. Rajinder Kumar Bhasin, Regional Manager Asia at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI), has been elected President of the Indian Society of Rock Mechanics and Tunnelling Technology (ISRMTT). ISRMTT was founded on May 4, 1992, as an organization of tunnel builders dedicated to promoting cooperation and advancing knowledge in rock mechanics, tunneling technology, and related subjects through research and professional collaboration.
With a prominent career in rock engineering and tunneling, Dr. Bhasin’s new role will encourage Norwegian tunneling companies to become acquainted with the Norwegian Tunneling Method (NTM) in India.
With the implementation of the Gati Shakti plan in India, almost 100 kilometers of tunnels are added to India’s transportation infrastructure on a yearly basis.
ISRMTT can play a crucial role in familiarizing NTM with the Indian construction ecosystem, lowering the cost and time of tunnel building in India. Under Dr. Bhasin’s supervision, NGI is assisting Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) in implementing NTM in one of its projects in Uttarakhand.
The Embassy congratulates Dr. Rajinder Bhasin on his leadership role and for bringing Norway on board as a partner in India’s ambitious infrastructure growth story by providing methods and technology that would not only lower costs but also save time and give a long-term solution.
