Strengthening India–EU Trade and Economic Partnership Shri
Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, held a productive and wide-ranging meeting with Mr. Maros Sefcovic, EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, and Mr. Christophe Hansen, EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Food.
The discussions covered the entire spectrum of India–EU economic engagement, with a focus on enhancing bilateral trade and investment flows, advancing negotiations on the India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and exploring new avenues for collaboration in areas of mutual interest such as supply chain resilience, technology cooperation, sustainable agriculture, and green transition.
Both sides acknowledged the strategic importance of a comprehensive and balanced trade agreement, which would unlock new opportunities for businesses, create quality jobs, and contribute to the long-term prosperity of both regions. The meeting also highlighted the shared commitment to open, fair, and rules-based global trade, and the need to build trusted and diversified value chains in an evolving global economic environment.
Minister Goyal appreciated the European Union’s constructive engagement and reaffirmed India’s dedication to working closely with the EU towards achieving mutually beneficial and ambitious outcomes under the ongoing FTA negotiations. The discussions reflected the strong political will on both sides to deepen their economic partnership and to take the India–EU relationship to new heights of cooperation, sustainability, and shared growth.
