International Mother Language Day celebrated in Hannover (February 19, 2022)
Indian Association Hannover (IASH) in cooperation with CGI Hamburg celebrated “International Mother Language Day” on 19 Feb 2022 at Stadteilzentrum Ricklingen in Hannover. CG John H. Ruolngul addressed the audience and spoke on this year’s theme of “Using technology for multilingual learning: Challenges and opportunities” and stressed the importance of learning and retaining one’s mother tongue, especially for expats and Indians living outside India. Dr. Birgit Barden-Läufer, Linguist and Director, International Affairs, Leibniz University Hannover, also graced the occasion and, in a lively on-stage interaction with Dr, Bala Ramani, President of IASH, spoke of the importance of language to fully appreciate and understand the culture and heritage of different societies. IASH members presented a number of items in different Indian languages as well as in German and the event ended with a tribute to the Nightingale of India, the Late Lata Mangeshkar.
