Düsseldorf, Germany — In a significant step toward strengthening the growth and development of cricket in Europe, ICC Chairperson Jay Shah met with German Cricket leadership in Düsseldorf to discuss the future of the sport in Germany and the broader European region.
The meeting brought together ICC Chairperson Jay Shah, German Cricket President Severin Weiß, and Vice-President Vignaesh Sankaran for strategic discussions focused on expanding cricket participation, enhancing infrastructure, nurturing grassroots talent, and strengthening Germany’s role within the global cricketing community.
During the discussions, the leaders exchanged views on the growing popularity of cricket across Germany, particularly among youth and multicultural communities, and explored opportunities to further accelerate the sport’s development through structured programs, partnerships, and international collaboration.
German Cricket leadership highlighted the progress achieved in recent years, including increased participation levels, domestic competition development, and efforts to build a stronger pathway for emerging players. The meeting also emphasized the importance of long-term investment in facilities, coaching, and community engagement to ensure sustainable growth.
ICC Chairperson Jay Shah acknowledged the positive momentum of cricket in Germany and reaffirmed the International Cricket Council’s commitment to supporting the expansion of the sport in emerging cricket nations.
