As part of the 60th anniversary of India–Malta diplomatic relations, the High Commission of India in Malta hosted a vibrant evening of Indian folk song and dance on 8th August 2025.
The event was graced by H.E. Dr. Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, who fondly recalled the Indian stores that once lined the streets of Valletta—a favorite stop for brides-to-be decades ago. She also appreciated the significant contributions of the Indian diaspora across various sectors of the Maltese economy.
The evening saw a distinguished gathering, including members of the Diplomatic Corps, business leaders, eminent Maltese citizens, and the Indian community. High Commissioner Mrs. Gloria Gangte extended heartfelt gratitude to President Debono for her unwavering support in strengthening the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Malta.
The celebration reached its pinnacle with a captivating performance by the ICCR-sponsored Rajasthani Folk Song and Dance Group. Their energetic dance and melodious traditional music enthralled the audience, bringing the spirit of Rajasthan alive.
Adding to the evening’s charm, Kantera, a Maltese folk band—slated to be the first-ever Maltese band to tour India for the International Folk Music and Dance Festival in September 2025—delighted the audience with their unique fusion of Maltese folk music.
The event beautifully highlighted the rich cultural exchange and deep-rooted friendship between India and Malta.
