To commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav or 75 years of India’s independence, Deutsch Indische Gesellschaft(German-Indian Society), Bonn-Cologne organised an event in Bonn on 8 August 2022. It was a journey down the memory lane as Dr Hemant Agrawal and Dr Bernd Basting provided a comprehensive account of various milestones achieved over this 75 years long journey.
Both the speakers also presented an interesting perspective on foreign policy, socio-economic developments including new initiatives since 2014 under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership as India emerges as an important player at the global stage. While commending India’s achievements in IT, space, biotechnology and automative sectors, India’s socio-economic initiatives like SabkaSaathSabkaVikas, Swachhbharat mission and poverty alleviation were particularly appreciated.
Consul General Dr Amit Telang appreciated the efforts made by DIG Bonn-Cologne in building strong India-Germany friendship and people to people ties. In his remarks, Consul General also emphasized common values of democracy and freedom as well as a strong belief in multi lateralism that binds the two countries together.
