Strengthening India–Germany Collaboration in Space Research
CG Ms. Sh uchita Kishore visited the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cologne and met with Ms. Aylin Kilic, Head of International Relations, and Ms. Katy Unter-Shayesteh to explore future avenues of cooperation between India and Germany in the space sector.
During the visit, CG toured the LUNA Moon Facility — a first-of-its-kind simulated lunar surface developed jointly by DLR and the European Space Agency (ESA).
🪐 The 700 sq. m lunar surface, created using basalt from the Rhein-Sieg region, closely replicates real lunar regolith and enables testing and preparation for future human and robotic lunar missions.
The visit also included the DLR Institute of Aerospace Medicine, home to the cutting-edge envihab research facility, which studies the impact of extreme space-related conditions on the human body to enhance astronaut safety and mission readiness.
The visit underscored the shared commitment of India and Germany to deepen cooperation in space science, innovation, technology, and research.
