Diwali Celebrated in Moscow after UNESCO Recognition

During the 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in New Delhi, Diwali was officially inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

To mark this historic milestone, the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre (JNCC), Embassy of India in Moscow, organised a special celebration at D Hall, coordinated by P. Dhara.

The evening was graced by Ambassador E. P. Vinay Kumar, who highlighted the importance of this international recognition and spoke about the inspiring and universal impact of Diwali on people and communities across the world.

A student of Class XI from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Embassy of India in Moscow, shared insights into Diwali celebrations across different regions of India, reflecting the festival’s rich cultural diversity. Teachers and students of the Cultural Centre presented a vibrant cultural programme, beautifully capturing the festive spirit.

The hall was illuminated with lamps and candles, and the celebrations concluded with a joyful gathering outdoors, where guests lit Bengal lights together, marking a bright and memorable end to the festivities.
