Honouring 150 Years of Vande Mataram at India House London

Celebrating 150 Years of Vande Mataram at India House, London

The High Commission of India in London hosted a special event on 7 November at India House to mark 150 years of India’s National Song, Vande Mataram — a timeless ode to the spirit of the nation. Composed in 1875, Vande Mataram continues to inspire generations, embodying India’s strength, resilience, and unwavering self-belief.

The evening began with opening remarks by High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami, who reflected on the song’s profound significance as the voice of India’s unity and self-confidence. He highlighted how Vande Mataram continues to resonate with Indians across the world, inspiring integrity, innovation, and a deep sense of national pride.

The celebration featured a series of captivating performances showcasing India’s diverse artistic heritage — including a soulful recital of the complete Vande Mataram by Guinness World Record holder Siddhiie Kapshikarr, a graceful Bharatanatyam performance by students of Lingeshwara Natyalaya, Kathak performances by Nipra Wamanker and Oorja Akshara from King’s College, and a moving semi-classical duet blending Sattriya and Odissi dance forms by Chinu Kishore and Sreyashi Deb Roy.

Performers were honoured with certificates of appreciation for their artistry and contribution in commemorating this landmark occasion. The event beautifully captured the essence of Vande Mataram — a song that continues to unite hearts and inspire service, creativity, and pride in India.
