Austria terror attack near Vienna at least 2-6 suspected gunmen

What we know so far

  • Gunmen attack: Shooters with automatic weapons opened fire in six locations in Vienna, Austria, on Monday evening, according to police. The country’s Interior Minister and Chancellor have called it a “terror attack.”
  • Casualties: One person was killed and one suspected gunman was shot dead, police say. At least 15 people have been injured, according to the Vienna mayor.
  • Suspects: Police said several suspects are “armed with rifles.” It’s not clear how many gunmen there are. At least one attacker is still on the run, according to the Interior Minister.

At least one person was killed and 15 others injured in a series of shootings that started near a synagogue in central Vienna on Monday night, which Chancellor Sebastian Kurz described as a “despicable terrorist attack.”

The shooting began at about 8 p.m. local time at six different locations by multiple gunmen armed with rifles, according to local authorities. Police shot and killed at least one of the suspects.
