Savitribai Phule, a social reformer, poet, and a powerful voice in the Indian freedom struggle, worked tirelessly to emancipate women and the Dalit community. Savitribai, along with her husband Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, started India’s first school for girls at Bhide Wada in 1848. She also fought against dowry and other oppressive social customs.
