NVVN Delegation Explores Danish Excellence in Waste to Energy Solutions

A high-level delegation from NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) Ltd. undertook a study visit to Denmark to gain deeper insights into the country’s advanced systems and best practices in waste segregation, waste-to-energy technologies, environmental sustainability and regulatory governance. The visit was aimed at understanding how Denmark has built one of the world’s most efficient and environmentally responsible waste management ecosystems, and to explore opportunities for adopting similar models in India.

During their visit, the delegation explored a series of cutting-edge waste-to-energy and circular economy facilities, including Vestforbrændingen, Copenhill, the recycling station Genbrugsstation at Nordhavn, Solrød Biogas, and Kommunernes Landsforening. These site visits offered practical insights into operational excellence, innovative recycling methods, integrated waste processing systems, and the use of advanced technologies to convert waste into clean energy.

A key highlight of the visit was the detailed and constructive meeting with the Danish Energy Agency (DEA). The discussions focused on India–Denmark cooperation in the power and clean energy sectors, identifying potential areas for collaboration in technology exchange, regulatory frameworks, financial models, and capacity building. The DEA shared Denmark’s experiences in designing sustainable waste management policies, while the NVVN delegation conveyed India’s growing ambitions in renewable energy expansion and waste-to-energy development.

The visit underscores the strong and growing bilateral partnership between India and Denmark, particularly under the framework of the Green Strategic Partnership, which aims to advance joint solutions in clean energy, climate action and environmental management. It also reflects India’s ongoing efforts to learn from global best practices and enhance domestic capabilities in sustainable power generation.
