Independence Day celebrated in Hamburg (August 15, 2022)
The 76th Independence Day of India was celebrated in the Consulate with much gaiety. The flag-hoisting ceremony, held at 1000 hrs, was attended by about 250 members of Indian community and friends of India. The Hon’ble President’s address to the Nation on the eve of the Independence Day was read out by Consul General John H. Ruolngul. The occasion also marked the 75th Anniversary of Independence and CG remembered the great Freedom Fighters whose sacrifices led to independence and took the opportunity to brief the gathering on various initiatives of the Consulate, in particular, and the Government of India, in general, and urged the Indian Diaspora to remain connected to the Consulate and to their roots back in India. The cultural programme included a song by Indian children living in Hamburg, German dancer Nina Wagner dancing to Bollywood patriotic songs and a Classical Dance performance by Bharatanatyam Performance Group Vaikhari (Ananaya Karmakar, Arjama Mukherjee and Shobhita Praveen) from Hamburg. The occasion also provided an opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with the Indian community and students living in the jurisdiction of this Consulate (Hamburg, Bremen, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein).
