The Icelandic authorities announced that all passengers who have been vaccinated, including residents and citizens as well as those with work permits or international protection in Iceland
must be tested for COVID-19 within the first 48 hours after arriving. According to the government’s press release, anyone who fails to follow the 48-hour rule could be fined. These passengers are not required to be quarantined upon arrival or until their test results are available. The PCR (or antigen test) can be done at either the border or at a testing center. This decision was based on Office of the Epidemiologist data, which indicated that approximately 90 percent of Coronavirus-infected individuals are Icelandic ID holders. To be permitted to enter Norway or Lithuania, Icelandic travelers must have negative results from their tests and pass quarantine. This requirement is not applicable to people born after 2005.
