Brussels/New Delhi — The European Council has endorsed a comprehensive strategic agenda to strengthen ties with India, marking a new chapter in EU–India relations. The agenda focuses on deepening cooperation in trade, innovation, technology, and security.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to concluding a balanced and ambitious Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of the year, aimed at enhancing market access and boosting economic growth. The Council also pledged closer collaboration in defence industrial partnerships, underlining shared priorities for a secure and sustainable global order.
The initiative builds on the EU–India Trade and Technology Council and highlights both regions’ commitment to democratic values, sustainable development, and a rules-based international system.
