India–Iceland Fisheries Collaboration: Exploring New Opportunities
The Embassy of India organised a Workshop on Opportunities in India’s Fisheries Sector on 19 January, highlighting the vast scope for India–Iceland collaboration in this vital sector.
Ambassador R. Ravindra elaborated on partnership prospects between India and Iceland in fisheries. The workshop featured insightful interventions by Mr Jon Erlingur, Ocean Envoy; Mr Olafur Stephensen, Secretary General of the Icelandic Federation of Trade; and Ms Alexandra Leeper, CEO of the Iceland Ocean Cluster.
A video message from Shri Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary (Inland Fisheries), Government of India, along with presentations from Invest India and the Marine Products Export Development Authority, added depth to the discussions.
GRO Fisheries Training Programme Fellows from India, Dr Harshvardhan Joshi and Dr Mujahid Khan, showcased the potential of tuna fisheries and emerging opportunities across India’s fisheries sector. The workshop witnessed strong participation from leading Icelandic fisheries companies, reflecting shared interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation.
