Due to Frontex, Switzerland May Leave Schengen Zone

The Swiss Federal Councilor responsible for the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) Karin Keller-Sutter has cautioned European Union Ministers of the Interior that her nation might need to leave the Schengen Area assuming the Swiss population vote against Frontex strengthening in a mandate that will be held mid-May this year.

As a part country, Switzerland has added to the subsidizing of Frontex starting around 2009, which is the agency responsible for the security of the outside boundaries of the Schengen Zone. While the organization’s spending plan for 2020 was €364 Million, the EU has multiplied its financial plan for 2022 to €754 million.

In any case, a few Swiss legislators and residents unhappy with work of Frontex have gathered 62,000 marks, 12,000 an overabundance for the association of a mandate to deny the increased commitment of Switzerland to Frontex’s financial plan.
