India Showcases Space Leadership at UN COPUOS, Vienna
Dr. Prakash Chauhan, Director, NRSC, ISRO, delivered India’s national statement at the 63rd Session of the Scientific & Technical Subcommittee of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS) in Vienna today.
He highlighted India’s recent milestones in space science and technology, including the NISAR mission; the launch of the heaviest communication satellite (CMS-03) using the LVM3-M5 launcher; delivery of the heaviest payload to Low Earth Orbit by LVM3-M6; and the participation of India’s first Gaganyaatri aboard the International Space Station, along with microgravity experiments.
Reaffirming India’s commitment to global benefit-sharing, Dr. Chauhan noted that datasets from the Aditya-L1 and XPoSat missions have been made available to researchers worldwide to support scientific studies. He also underlined the rapid growth of India’s private space ecosystem, with over 300 start-ups driving innovation with the support of IN-SPACe.
The statement further highlighted ISRO’s successful leadership of the International Charter: Space and Major Disasters for six months in 2025, reinforcing India’s role as a responsible and reliable space partner.
