Ongoing Search for Missing Indian Student in Lake Starnberg

A 23-year-old Indian student has been missing since Sunday afternoon after disappearing in Lake Starnberg, Bavaria. The incident occurred when the man, who reportedly could not swim, jumped into the lake from a rented electric boat and was unable to return. Despite rescue efforts, he remains missing.

  • The search continued on Monday with the deployment of underwater robots to help locate the victim in the northern part of the lake.
  • Police divers are on standby and will be deployed if the robot narrows down the suspected location.
  • Search dogs from the local technical canine rescue team have joined the efforts, operating from a boat. The student’s friends provided personal items for scent tracking.
  • Initial search efforts on Sunday evening were halted due to an approaching thunderstorm.
  • The student was with two fellow university colleagues when the incident happened. They tried unsuccessfully to rescue him.

The missing student is one of several casualties during a tragic weekend across Upper Bavaria, where three people died in separate drowning incidents.

  • Fatal accidents were also reported at Karlsfelder See and Chiemsee.
  • The Water Rescue Service (Wasserwacht) reported a total of seven major water-related emergencies in the region over the weekend, attributing the spike in incidents to the first hot weekend of the year.
  • Thomas Huber, head of the Wasserwacht, described the situation as “dramatic, sad, and alarming,” and urged the public to observe safety guidelines when swimming in natural bodies of water.

Dear Indian Students in Germany – Stay Safe Around Water Bodies

Tragic incidents like the recent case of a young Indian student going missing in Lake Starnberg are heartbreaking reminders of how unpredictable nature can be. Please take the following precautions seriously:

  • Avoid entering lakes, rivers, or waterfalls if you are not a confident swimmer.
  • Always go in groups – never swim alone or without someone watching.
  • Wear a life jacket if you’re on boats or near deep water, even if you’re just taking a dip.
  • Be aware of local weather conditions – strong winds, currents, and sudden storms can be dangerous.
  • Listen to local safety advisories and follow the rules of public swimming areas.
  • Think of your loved ones back home. One moment of carelessness can have lifelong consequences for your family.

Germany has many beautiful natural spots, but safety must come first. Enjoy, but stay alert.

Please share this with your friends and student communities. Let’s look out for each otherm
