Timişoara is kicking off today its European Capital of Culture 2023 series of events!
Timişoara shares the honours this year with Elefsina (Greece) and Veszprém (Hungary), thus joining the European Capital of Culture tradition started in 1985, which saw two Danish cities take over the title since: Copenhagen in 1996, followed by Aarhus in 2017.
We miss the zest of Sibiu, which held the title in 2007, but are so looking forward to discovering what Timişoara has in store under its “Shine your light – Light up your city!” theme – a kind reminder of the first city on mainland Europe to have electric street lighting.
