Today, Danes celebrate Sankt Hans Aften (Saint John’s Eve)
The evening is a combined celebration of Saint John the Baptist, supposedly born on 24 June, and the heathen celebration of chasing away all evilness and malice on the shortest night of the year. June 23 is the longest day – or the shortest night – and Danes usually celebrate the evening with friends at their local bonfire venue
