The Christmas testing spike in Denmark has resulted in a record number of Covid cases

Denmark’s health officials have recommended individuals to “visit as few people as possible” during the holiday season, citing a record number of 23,228 new Covid-19 cases registered in the last 24 hours. According to statistics released by the Statens Serum Institut (SSI) on Wednesday, 1,205 reinfections have been reported, or around one in every 20 cases.

With only one day till New Year’s Eve, Denmark’s Health Authority (SST) Director Soren Brostrom urged Danes to opt for peaceful celebrations on the 31st, according to Xinhua news agency.

See as few people as possible, and keep it quiet,” said Brostrom at a press conference.”The entire population has lived with Covid-19 for almost two years and knows how it is transmitted,” the official said, without offering any more specific guidance.

In the last 24 hours, the SSI has recorded 16 more deaths, bringing the national totals to 3,247 deaths and 762,299 cases since the epidemic began. Overall, we can conclude we have a rising pandemic that is driven by Omicron,” Krause stated at the press conference, estimating that the disease will peak in January 2022.

Furthermore, according to the SSI, 77.6% of the population has been fully vaccinated, with 45.7 percent receiving a booster dose. Denmark isn’t yet ready with own analysis of the omicron severity data, officials said.
