New high Risk SARS-CoV-2 Variant Named as Omicron

 

With all other previous  variants the new variant Omicron has large number of mutations on  which  some are regarding and the Preliminary evidence suggest that the new  variant is  high risk  of  reinfection as compared to previous variants. The B.1.1.529 variant was first reported to WHO  from South Africa on  24,November2021 they designated B.1.1.529 as a ‘variant of concern’ and named OMICRON. And now there is a increased number of cases in almost all places in South Africa. Few more nations also in the list of with new variant cases. Current SARS-CoV-2 PCR diagnostics continue to detect this variant. Several labs have indicated that for one widely used PCR test, one of the three target  genes is not detected (called S gene dropout or S gene target failure) and this test can therefore be used as marker for this variant, pending sequencing confirmation. Using  this approach, this variant has been detected at faster rates than previous surges in  infection, suggesting that this variant may have a growth advantage. Earlier said the travel ban with the European Countries, and now the list is added                  with US, Canada, and also Saudi Arabia joining list of countries restricting travel from   South Africa.
