The then Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi inaugurated the first World Hindi Conference in Nagpur on 10 January 1975. Later, on 10 January 2006 then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had announced that this day will be celebrated as World Hindi Day every year.
