Inscription of Garba in UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity celebrated in Poland
Indian community organisations and friends of India in Poland celebrated the inscription of Garba dance in UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on 9th Dec 2023 in Warsaw. HE Nagma Mallick and Embassy officials joined in the celebration.
Garba, a colourful and traditional dance form of Gujarat, is mainly performed during the nine-day Hindu festival “Navratra”. The dance is performed usually by women in colourful attire in a circle around a lamp or idol of the Goddess ‘Shakti’.
The Garba was inscribed in UNESCO’s List at the 18th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) in Kasane, Republic of Botswana, December 06, 2023.
