India Welcomes Global Campuses: Five Foreign Universities to Set Up in Mumbai/Navi Mumbai
At the ‘Mumbai Rising’ event today, the Hon’ble Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, awarded Letters of Intent (LoIs) to five globally renowned universities from the UK, USA, Australia, and Italy for establishing their campuses in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The event was also attended by Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis.
Shri Pradhan emphasized that India’s goal is not just to host foreign universities, but to co-create vibrant ecosystems of innovation, entrepreneurship, and cutting-edge research. The incoming institutions will offer courses in high-demand fields including data science, public health, business, design, and computer science—responding to the aspirations of India’s youth and contributing to the vision of a Viksit Bharat.
The five universities granted LoIs are:
- University of York (UK)
- University of Aberdeen (UK)
- University of Western Australia
- Illinois Institute of Technology (USA)
- Instituto Europeo di Design (Italy)
These institutions are set to establish offshore campuses in Mumbai/Navi Mumbai, marking a significant milestone in India’s higher education landscape.
