Munich voters elected the city’s first openly gay mayor, Dominik Krause. He celebrated his victory with a kiss with his fiancé Sebastian Müller.
He won the second round of the election with 56.4 percent of the vote, defeating former Social Democratic Party (SPD) mayor Dieter Reiter.
He thanked his fiancée and said she was the love of his life, without whom none of this would have been possible. They met in 2007 at a dance school. They became friends and later began a romantic relationship.
They got engaged in 2024. Marking a historic LGBTQ+ moment in German politics, he wrote on Instagram: “Munich, you are amazing! Our city has decided to light up the world today. Thank you for this incredible trust. Let’s go!”.
Krause has been a member of the city council since 2014 and was elected deputy mayor in 2023, making him one of the youngest people to hold the position. He is 35 years old.
He is known as a pragmatic politician, focused on climate protection, sustainable urban development, digitalization, social policies, and education
