Indian Woman becomes the Ambassador for Ireland Law Society

Anjusha Ashok, Kannur-born, was excited to move to Ireland after her marriage. Anjusha Ashok, a law graduate from India, didn’t hesitate to make the move. She also did not fear the challenges ahead. Anjusha arrived in the Emerald Isle with bright-eyed optimism and a suitcase filled with dreams, hopes, as well as the Law, her lifeblood. To become a qualified Irish lawyer, she had to pass the Law Society of Ireland’s Entrance Exam, which is one of the most difficult tests in Ireland. Add to that the problems of her Stamp 3 visa which did not grant her a work permit, and it was easy to lose heart. The young woman was determined to keep dreaming. She was diligent and prepared for the exam which included more than eight papers. It was an endurance race for Anjusha to cover three years of syllabus.

In October 2019, eight months after she arrived in Ireland, the young lawyer passed the exam. Although she was now a member of The Law Society of Ireland, there were still many obstacles to clear before she could begin practicing law in the country.

Anjusha needed to first complete a solicitor apprenticeship. She applied to many law firms in Dublin for training contracts for a long time and never received a reply. Anjusha says that the main obstacle was her visa status.

Anjusha was granted a Stamp 1 visa a year later. After numerous trips to the immigration offices, Anjusha was able to secure a contract at Crowley Millar in Dublin.

Anjusha completed a six-month course offered by the Law Society before she began her Crowley Millar training. This exam was also a success, so there’s no prizes for guessing.
