The High Commission of India in London marked #NationalSportsDay2025 with a special celebration in the presence of Shri Harsh Sanghavi, Minister for Sports, Government of Gujarat. Earlier in the day, the Minister formally submitted India’s proposal to host the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad to Dr. Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport. The event was attended by UK sports leaders, members of the Indian diaspora, and media representatives.
High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami, in his address, emphasized the growing importance of fostering a sporting culture in India. He underlined how the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is giving priority to developing world-class sports infrastructure and encouraging private sector participation to nurture young athletes into future champions.
Shri Harsh Sanghavi noted that India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games reflects the nation’s commitment to delivering an inclusive and sustainable sporting event. He highlighted the special significance of submitting the proposal on #NationalSportsDay2025, a day that both honours India’s sporting legacy and underscores its vision for empowering the youth of the future.
