Commemorating 150 Years of “Vande Mataram” and Celebrating Uttar Pradesh Diwas in Copenhagen
The Embassy of India, Copenhagen, in association with the Danish Indian Voluntary Association (DIVA), hosted a spectacular Indian concert on 25 January 2026, commemorating the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram”, India’s national song, and celebrating Uttar Pradesh Diwas.
The event was inaugurated by Ambassador Manish Prabhat and Mr. Ramesh Bhardwaj, President of DIVA. Ambassador Prabhat highlighted the historical and cultural significance of “Vande Mataram”, while also speaking about the rich cultural heritage and rapid development of Uttar Pradesh, which is steadily advancing towards becoming a USD 1 trillion economy.
The evening began with a mass rendition of “Vande Mataram” led by Nabanita Ghosh, followed by screenings of documentaries on Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the author of the song, and on the cultural and developmental landscape of Uttar Pradesh.

The highlight of the evening was a special performance by DHOAD – Gypsies of Rajasthan, led by Rahis Bharti, presenting Rajasthan’s rich folk traditions through music and dance. DHOAD, an internationally acclaimed ensemble performing in over 100 countries, continues to be a proud cultural ambassador of India.
Certificates and mementos were presented to the participants in appreciation of their contributions. The programme was warmly received, reflecting the strong cultural connect between India and the Indian diaspora in Denmark.
