About The Film:
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the director of the 2022 Hindi-language biographical crime drama Gangubhai Kathiawadi. It is based on the true story of Gangubhai Kothewali, a well-known figure in Mumbai’s underworld in the 1960s who rose to prominence as a social crusader and brothel owner. The novel “Mafia Queens of Mumbai” by S. Hussain Zaidi served as the inspiration for the movie. In the main role, Alia Bhatt portrays Gangubhai, a woman who is sold to a brothel and forced into prostitution. She subsequently becomes a powerful and well-respected member of the community, battling for the rights of sex workers and promoting their emancipation.
