Dr. Balasubramanian Ramani elected to City Council of Hannover
Consulate General of India, Hamburg felicitates Dr. Balasubramanian Ramani for being elected to the City Council of Hannover (Lower Saxony) with maximum votes among all the candidates of other parties in his Constituency (Hannover Mitte, Calenberger Neustadt, Zoo and Oststadt).
Dr. Balasubramanian Ramani, who was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) by the President of India in Jan 2021, has a PhD in Marine Botany from the Leibniz University of Hannover and is an eminent member of the Indian Diaspora, an Educationist, Social Worker and Politician. He originally hails from Tamil Nadu and first came to Germany in 2000 to join Leibniz University for his PhD. He has been a permanent employee of the International Affairs Department of the Leibniz University since 2011 and is the Regional Coordinator for India, South Asia and Africa. He founded the Indian Association Hannover in 2009 and Indian Student Association Germany in 2015.
Dr. Ramani became an active member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in October 2012 and was elected in 2016 as a District Councilor in the Hanover City District Council. He is also an advisory member of the International Committee of the City of Hanover and Chairman of the SPD Hanover-Mitte & Calenberger Neustadt association.
