Prof. Dr. Sc. Đani Benčić from the Faculty of Agriculture, along with his associate Mr. Matko Štambuk, met with H.E. Ambassador of India to present an innovative and culturally significant project proposal titled “Extra Virgin Olive Oil of Two-Millennium Quality and Two-Millennium Tradition of its Marketing in India.”
The proposal highlights the rich legacy of Istrian olive oil—renowned globally for its exceptional quality—and seeks to revive a two-thousand-year-old tradition of trade between the regions. By reintroducing this historic exchange, the initiative aims to connect heritage with modern markets, bringing premium olive oil to Indian consumers while promoting sustainable agriculture and artisanal excellence.
This interaction reflects the growing momentum in bilateral engagement between India and Croatia, particularly in areas such as agri-innovation, food processing, and trade partnerships. It also underscores the shared commitment to preserving cultural traditions while exploring new avenues for economic cooperation and people-to-people connections.
The meeting marks an important step toward strengthening collaboration in niche sectors and enhancing mutual understanding through heritage-driven initiatives. Such efforts not only celebrate centuries-old traditions but also pave the way for future-oriented partnerships rooted in quality, sustainability, and shared values.
