AM Green and Port of Rotterdam Forge $1 Billion India-Europe Green Fuel Corridor

AM Green, a clean energy company supported by the founders of Greenko, has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with the Port of Rotterdam Authority to develop a green fuel supply chain linking India and Northwestern Europe. This partnership aims to facilitate the annual trade of up to $1 billion worth of green fuels, such as green ammonia and sustainable aviation fuel, helping to deepen energy cooperation between India and the European Union.

Central to this initiative is the development of AM Green’s green ammonia facility in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. Scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2026, the plant will be built on the site of a repurposed urea manufacturing unit acquired earlier this year. The project—estimated to cost around ₹12,500 crore—will feature both green hydrogen production and ammonia conversion infrastructure. In its first phase, the plant is expected to produce 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia, aimed primarily at export markets in Europe.

Rotterdam, Europe’s largest energy port and a rising hub for hydrogen and low-carbon energy solutions, will serve as the entry point for these fuels. The port currently accounts for about 13% of Europe’s total energy intake and is positioning itself as a critical gateway for global green fuel trade.

“This agreement is a major milestone in building a resilient and sustainable green energy corridor,” said Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority. “India has enormous potential for green hydrogen production, and with Rotterdam’s infrastructure and location, this partnership will create a powerful link between two key global energy regions.”

AM Green has already secured offtake agreements with major international players such as Uniper, Yara, and Keppel, ensuring a robust demand base for its green ammonia exports. The company is also collaborating with global logistics provider DP World to establish advanced storage and transportation infrastructure in India and abroad, streamlining the export process and reinforcing its global supply chain for clean fuels.

This collaboration not only strengthens India’s position in the global green hydrogen economy but also supports Europe’s push toward carbon neutrality by securing access to sustainable fuel sources.

Anil Chalamalasetty, Founder of AM Green and Greenko Group said, “This partnership is part of our ambitious global growth strategy in green fuels including 5 MTPA of green ammonia and 1 MTPA of SAF. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in establishing a global carbon-free energy ecosystem.

It will enable the seamless movement of green molecules and fuels from India to Europe, reinforcing AM Green’s position as a global clean energy transition platform and accelerating industrial decarbonization globally
About the Port of Rotterdam Authority: The port of Rotterdam creates significant economic and social value in the Rotterdam-Rijnmond region, the Netherlands and Europe through employment and security of supply of energy, food and other materials needed in society.

About AM Green: AM Green is promoted by founders of Greenko Group, which is among India’s leading renewable energy conglomerates.

Greenko Group has experience in building, owning and operating renewable assets and is in the process of constructing mega closed loop pumped storage assets which will enable supply of round the clock power at a very competitive rate. The founders have established AM Green as a new energy transition platform.

AM Green’s target is to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Green Ammonia, Green Hydrogen, Green Chemicals and biofuels and to set up related technology partnerships and services through its various business verticals which are housed in the subsidiaries of AM Green.

AM Green will house production of green chemicals, green hydrogen, and biofuels. AM Green is committed to producing green ammonia at scale across multiple locations in India. Goal is to reach 5 MTPA of green ammonia capacity by 2030, which will directly contribute to India’s net-zero targets, while simultaneously supporting OECD markets in their decarbonization efforts. This output will be equivalent to 1 MTPA of green hydrogen, representing one-fifth of India’s target for green hydrogen production and 10% of Europe’s target for green hydrogen imports.
