A moment of pride as a bronze bust of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, sculpted by renowned Indian artist Ram V. Sutar, was unveiled today near the historic Royal Mile in Edinburgh.
The bust was formally handed over by the High Commissioner of India to the UK, H.E. Mr. Vikram Doraiswami, to the Rt Hon Mr. Robert Aldridge, Lord Provost of Edinburgh, who received it on behalf of The City of Edinburgh Council.
We were honoured by the presence of Ms. Kaukab Stewart MSP, Minister for Equalities for Scotland, Ms. Anna Macmillan, Director and Head of Scotland Office, along with several distinguished MPs and MSPs.
Placed opposite the statue of Sir Patrick Geddes, this symbolic reunion reflects the deep intellectual and cultural connection shared by these two visionaries and commemorates the enduring friendship between India and Scotland.
The unveiling was followed by a vibrant dance-drama inspired by Tagore’s works and an exhibition highlighting the India–Scotland relationship.
Special thanks to the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), ScoTS – Scottish Centre of Tagore Studies, and all friends of India for their support in strengthening these cultural ties.
