Dear friends in Munich,
I cordially invite you all to my Bharathanatyam repertoire next Sunday, 16.10 at Kulturhaus Milbertshofen.
“Prayanam – a journey of 4 decades” celebrates the power of womanhood. The two main items are centered on strong woman characters.
Padam is based on the Malayalam poem “Paadhaprathista” written by the late Sugathakumari teacher .In the dance piece we try to draw parallels between Sita’s life and that of a woman who has been subjected to societal hardships. Beautifully composed and sung by Shri. Bijeesh Krishna and splendidly choreographed by my dear teacher Smt. Manju V Nair, this is my favorite.
Varnam depicts the story of Kannaki, a woman who is a symbol of love and courage and Attukal Devi whose pongala festival is the world’s largest all-women gathering. It is the day when the streets of Trivandum are conquered by women, a day just for us. Posting here a short clip from the Varnam, recorded during the performance in August.
Hope to see many of you there.
Entry is free.
