Germany will no longer need travellers from the United Kingdom to be quarantined and show a negative COVID-19 test, as it did earlier in December during an outbreak of the Omicron coronavirus strain.
The German embassy in London announced on Twitter that the conditions would be removed starting at midnight CET on January 4, allowing anyone who are completely vaccinated or have a compelling reason to travel to Germany to do so.
Grant Shapps, Britain’s transport minister, called the news a “positive development” on Twitter. Germany had designated the United Kingdom as a source of worry for a variety of reasons.
The coronavirus pandemic caused by Omicron has struck again in the United Kingdom, with a new high of 183,037 daily cases reported on Wednesday. Infections spiked in Germany in October and November, but have since subsided in December.
