Most new foreign workers are covered by a simplified tax scheme called withholding tax on wages for foreign workers. The scheme means that you are taxed at a fixed percentage that the employer deducts from each salary payment. You can not claim a deduction, and will not receive a tax return or tax settlement. You can choose to be taxed according to general rules instead.
If you are not covered by the withholding tax scheme on salary, you will receive a tax return in March / April of the year following the income year. This is an overview of, among other things, income and deductions. You must check the information and correct any errors or omissions. Once your tax return has been processed, you will receive a tax settlement. It shows if you have money for good or owe taxes. You must again check that the information is correct. If the tax settlement is not correct, you can still correct errors.
