US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will be jointly opening Hannover Messe on 24 April 2016. “Obama’s participation sends a special signal about Hannover Messe’s international appeal”, says Jochen Köckler, member of the managing board at Deutsche Messe AG. “In the midst of its reindustrialization, the USA has become a very attractive business partner for industry.”
As Hannover Messe Partner Country, the USA will be showcasing in particular energy efficiency and energy production, cutting edge manufacturing technology, training and continuing education, and transatlantic partnerships. The United States is keen to boost its industry at home and attract foreign investors. To this end, framework conditions have already been improved and new infrastructural and educational programmes rolled out.
“Integrated Industry – Discover Solutions”
This year’s slogan at Hannover Messe is “Integrated Industry – Discover Solutions”. Roughly 5,000 industrial companies from 70 countries are expected to exhibit, including some 250 companies from the USA. With a gross domestic product of nearly 17 trillion dollars, the USA accounts for more than a quarter of the global economy. During his visit to Germany, President Obama also plans to drive forward negotiations on the TTIP free trade agreement between the USA and Europe.
