Embassy Hosts Closing Ceremony of Rajkumar College – Maharaja Schools Exchange Programme
On 28 June 2025, the Embassy had the honour of hosting the closing event of the school exchange visit by Rajkumar College, Rajkot to the Maharaja Schools (Bednarska School) in Warsaw. The gathering, held at the Embassy premises, marked a special moment in the vibrant educational and cultural collaboration between India and Poland.
We were pleased to welcome Mrs. Maria Kotowska, Director of the Board of Governors of the Maharaja Schools; Ms. Alicja Skreta, Director of the IB Programme, and Mr. Bartlomiej Pielak, Deputy Director of Bednarska High School. Senior students and their parents also joined the celebration. Representing Rajkumar College were Mr. Mahendrasingh Chauhan and Ms. Vaishali Tandon, senior faculty members, along with a delegation of enthusiastic students. The event was further graced by the presence of Padma Shri awardee Prof. Krzysztof Byrski and members of the Gutowski family.
Ambassador Nagma M. Mallick, in her remarks, recalled the remarkable role played by the Jamsaheb of Nawanagar—fondly remembered in Poland as the “Dobry Maharaja”—in nurturing India-Poland people-to-people relations. She noted with pride that the exchange programme between the two schools was a fitting continuation of this historical bond. As one of the patrons of Rajkumar College and namesake of the Maharaja Schools in Warsaw, the Jamsaheb’s legacy lives on. The Ambassador also highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first Indian leader to pay tribute to memorials dedicated to the Jamsaheb and the Kolhapur family during his landmark visit to Poland in August 2024.
Students from both schools shared reflections and insights gained through their exchange experience. A group from the Maharaja School had earlier visited Rajkumar College in Rajkot in November 2024, deepening the cultural and educational dialogue.
The event concluded on a high note with a beautiful violin performance by Ms. Melania Piekarzewska, which was warmly received by all in attendance.
